What good market design looks like

Trust is not a feature added at the end of a climate market. It is the architecture underneath it.

Markets earn trust through small, consistent decisions. What is measured. Who can participate. How ownership changes. What happens when an outcome is challenged.

Climate markets need that discipline because their products combine physical reality with financial value. A unit is not credible merely because it has a price. It needs a clear origin, a bounded claim and rules that remain legible as it moves.

    Build the rails first

Good market design starts with the rails: verification, registries, allocation logic and transparent reporting. Liquidity matters, but liquidity without integrity only accelerates confusion.

The strongest systems make the right behaviour easier. They reduce ambiguity for buyers, reward project quality and give every participant confidence that the record will hold up under scrutiny.
