The Mining Outlook 2026
A mine's Scope 1 is its customers' Scope 3. From January 2026 CBAM prices it at the border and the Battery Passport grades every cell.

A mining operation’s Scope 1 emissions form part of its customers’ Scope 3 footprint. As a result, lower-emission production is gaining a measurable competitive advantage in the market. Customers seeking to reduce their own reported emissions therefore have both the strategic incentive and the justification to contribute to the cost of decarbonisation at the source.
The hard part is financing that cut, and sharing the value with the partners who benefit. That is the gap Carbon3 closes. Our new report maps where the pressure is, where the value is, and how green metal gets paid for.
From January 2026 that carbon stops being invisible. EU CBAM prices it at the border, and the Battery Passport grades every cell. Mining looks like a small carbon problem at the pit. The real footprint is hiding in what the ore becomes: the steel, aluminium and battery metals the energy transition runs on.
