CBAM verification guidance, Japan's carbon market design and an EU ETS price above EUR 80 all point the same way for procurement teams.

Japan released its initial national carbon market design on August 28. The mechanism allows covered entities to use credits generated from upstream decarbonisation projects, provided chain-of-custody documentation meets new registry standards.
EU ETS prices climbed to 82.87 EUR on August 28. CFOs reviewing capital plans must therefore recalibrate hurdle rates for supplier co-investment programmes. Lenders are already embedding ETS-linked covenants into new facilities.
