About this project

The description is as the source gives it.

The Steelanol project is a pioneering carbon capture and utilization initiative in Ghent, Belgium, led by ArcelorMittal and LanzaTech. It transforms waste gases from steel production into up to 80 million liters of sustainable ethanol annually using advanced biocatalyst technology. Inaugurated in 2022, the plant achieved its first ethanol production milestone in 2024, contributing to significant CO2 emission reductions at the site.

Statuses, countries and reductions are as the public source states them, and may be out of date.
