About Carbon3

Carbon3 is the financial infrastructure for Scope 1, 2 and 3 decarbonization through value chain interventions, also called insetting.

Our mission

Scale decarbonization with credits that are transparent, verifiable and tradable, and tied to real emissions reductions.

Supply chains that invest together and share the risk. The market rewards the companies that act, not only the ones with the biggest budgets.

Why we built Carbon3

For most companies, Scope 3 is the largest part of the footprint. Yet most of the money needed to reduce it never reaches the supply chain.

When a supplier reduces its emissions, its customers benefit for free. Their Scope 3 falls, but they paid nothing. So projects stay underfunded, and progress is slow.

We built Carbon3 to fix that. It is a market where the cost and the benefit of a reduction are shared, priced and traded in the open.

“Scope 3 emissions are a shared responsibility, yet when a supplier invests in reducing emissions, the value chain benefits without contributing. Relying on this dynamic will not deliver Net Zero. We founded Carbon3 to enable companies to share both the costs and benefits of emissions reductions, creating incentives that scale across supply chains.”
Ilja Nevolin, Co-founder, Carbon3

Scope 3 is a financing problem more than a measurement problem

Companies can already measure much of their supply-chain footprint. What is missing is a way to pay for reductions together, and get something back. Each structure in use today leaves a gap.

Structures in use today
StructureHow it worksWhy it falls short
The supplier pays aloneThe supplier funds a cleaner process, fuel or material from its own budget. Its customers’ Scope 3 falls too, but they share none of the cost, so many projects do not clear the supplier’s own business case.
One customer pays a premiumA single buyer pays more for a lower-carbon product or service. The premium is a pure expense. Nothing can be held, shared with other buyers or recovered later.
OffsetsA company buys credits from a project outside its business. Its suppliers’ emissions stay the same, and offset-based claims face growing limits, such as the EU ban on offset-based product neutrality claims from 27 September 2026.
Book-and-claim certificatesIn fuels, a certificate lets a buyer claim a lower-carbon fuel used elsewhere in the same system. They track a claim, but there is no built-in way for several funders to share one project and its benefits.

Why financing is the lever

When a verified tonne becomes an asset, reducing it is no longer a sunk cost. Several customers can co-fund one supplier. Each holds credits in line with what it paid.

Credits can be traded before they are retired. This lets investors and lenders fund a project up front and get their money back when the credits sell. That brings new capital into supply chains.

Carbon3 keeps the record that makes this work. Each project is validated and verified by independent bodies. Each credit is issued once, allocated to one holder and claimed once.

Who we are

Carbon3 is the financial infrastructure for Scope 1, 2 and 3 decarbonization through value chain interventions, also called insetting. We turn independently verified emissions reductions in a company’s own value chain into inset credits that can be allocated, traded and retired. Decarbonization should create value, not only meet a compliance requirement.

The platform covers the whole credit lifecycle. Each credit has a unique identifier linked to its verification documents. It is allocated without double counting, can be traded, and is retired once to support a Scope 3 claim.
