About this project

The description is as the source gives it.

The GIGA-SCALES project establishes a pioneering industrial-scale hydrogen membrane production plant in Mortsel, Belgium, with up to 20 GW annual capacity for ZIRFON separators used in alkaline electrolysers. These advanced membranes boost electrical efficiency, reduce renewable electricity needs, and lower the levelized cost of hydrogen production. The facility, inaugurated in September 2025, is projected to avoid 6.13 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent over its first ten years of operation.<grok:render type="render_inline_citation"><argument name="citation_id">30</argument></grok:render><grok:render type="render_inline_citation"><argument name="citation_id">58</argument></grok:render>
