About this project
The description is as the source gives it.
Chevron operates the Gorgon CCS system at its Gorgon LNG facility on Barrow Island, Australia, capturing naturally occurring CO2 from offshore gas reservoirs and injecting it into a sandstone formation two kilometres underground for permanent storage. The system started up in August 2019 and has injected more than 12 million tonnes of CO2 to date, with over 100 million tonnes expected to be mitigated over the life of the project. This directly reduces Scope 1 emissions from Chevron's own LNG operations. Evidence: "The Gorgon CCS system started up safely in August 2019 and will continue to be optimised to ensure it performs reliably over 40-plus years of operation." — https://australia.chevron.com/what-we-do/gorgon-project/carbon-capture-and-storage
