About this project
The description is as the source gives it.
Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation's Hiroshima Plant has implemented co-firing of biomass fuel (wood chips) in its onsite coal-fired boilers for power and steam generation since 2008, with full-scale use from FY2019. This fuel switching directly reduces Scope 1 emissions from the plant's operations, which previously accounted for ~90% of the plant's CO2 emissions. Evidence: "To reduce this significant environmental burden we have been using wood chips in mixed combustion of biomass fuel to help reduce CO2 emissions since 2008. Going forward we aim to further increase the co-firing rate and thereby enhance the CO2 reduction effect. Through the full-scale use of co-firing with biomass fuel, including wood scraps, in fiscal 2019 we achieved an annual CO2 reduction effect of 4,700 tons." — https://www.mcgc.com/english/sustainability/assets/pdf/sr_mcc_2024.pdf
