About this project

The description is as the source gives it.

Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation completed construction of Japan's largest chemical recycling facility at its Kashima Complex in Ibaraki Prefecture in November 2024. The plant uses hydrothermal recycling with supercritical water to process up to 20,000 tons of waste plastics annually into regenerated oils for producing recycled PE and PP. Demonstration production and supply of recycled plastics began in summer 2025 with partners, reducing reliance on virgin fossil feedstocks in the company's value chain. Evidence: "Mitsubishi Chemical will use its chemical recycling plant in the Kashima petrochemical complex in Ibaraki for this circular economy project. The firm completed construction of the plant in November 2024 and has been conducting a trial run to turn waste plastics into regenerated oils." — https://www.argusmedia.com/en/news-and-insights/latest-market-news/2658595-japan-s-mitsubishi-chemical-to-produce-recycled-pe-pp
