About this project

The description is as the source gives it.

The Kemi bioproduct mill, started operations in 2023, operates completely without fossil fuels using bio-based fuels from side streams, produces 2 TWh renewable electricity annually with 250% self-sufficiency, and reduces fossil CO2 emissions by ~68,000 tonnes compared to the former mill despite higher capacity. Evidence: "Bioproduct mills in Äänekoski and Kemi operate completely without fossil energy. ... Thanks to the resource-efficient new mill the fossil-based CO2 emissions decrease by some 68,000 tonnes (25 % of Metsä Fibre’s Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions) compared to the former mill" — https://www.metsagroup.com/globalassets/metsa-group/documents/investors/financial-reporting/annual-reports/2025/metsa-group-climate-transition-plan-2025.pdf
