About this project
The description is as the source gives it.
The BigBATT project will deploy a large-scale 150 MW / 360 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) adjacent to the Ribatejo Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) at Carregado, Portugal. It stores excess renewable energy during low-demand periods and releases it during peak demand, saving approximately 500,000 tons of CO2 emissions over its 10-year lifetime while enhancing grid stability and reducing fossil fuel reliance. The project, funded by the EU Innovation Fund, supports Europe's transition to a climate-neutral energy system.<grok:render type="render_inline_citation"><argument name="citation_id">53</argument></grok:render><grok:render type="render_inline_citation"><argument name="citation_id">24</argument></grok:render>
