Outokumpu signed an MoU with Norsk e-Fuel to develop a CO-to-eSAF production plant adjacent to its Tornio mill, using carbon monoxide side streams from ferrochrome production as feedstock. The project would enable production of 80,000-100,000 tonnes of eSAF annually starting potentially in 2032 and reduce Outokumpu's direct CO2 emissions by 200,000 tonnes per year (20% of global direct emissions).
