About this project
The description is as the source gives it.
Union Pacific is testing four locomotives on 100% biomass-based renewable diesel fuel at a San Bernardino sand and gravel mine, with plans to evaluate an 80/20 renewable diesel/biodiesel blend across the fleet. This directly reduces Scope 1 emissions from locomotive operations using fuels produced from vegetable and animal fats. Evidence: "Four Union Pacific locomotives providing service to a San Bernardino sand and gravel mine are running on 100% biomass-based fuel – the first time in Union Pacific’s history that a locomotive is being powered solely by a renewable fuel source made from vegetable and/or animal fats." — https://www.up.com/news/service/biofuel-locomotive-test-it-220714
