About this project
The description is as the source gives it.
Suncor replaced three petroleum coke-fired boilers with two high-efficiency natural gas-fired cogeneration units at its Oil Sands Base Plant near Fort McMurray, Alberta. The project switches from a high-GHG fuel source to natural gas for steam generation in extraction and upgrading operations while producing lower-carbon power for the Alberta grid. It became operational in Q4 2024. Evidence: "Fuel switching from petroleum coke to natural gas in a cogeneration facility modernizes the equipment, generates steam more efficiently and increases our capacity to export efficient power to the Alberta provincial grid." — https://www.suncor.com/en-ca/news-and-stories/our-stories/the-benefits-of-fuel-switching
