About this project
The description is as the source gives it.
Fortum's multi-year programme to decarbonise district heating in the Espoo, Kauniainen and Kirkkonummi region of Finland by replacing coal with electric boilers, heat pumps, waste heat recovery from data centres (including Microsoft) and other low-carbon solutions. The last coal unit was closed in April 2024, over a year ahead of the original 2025 target. Total investment approximately EUR 300 million, with EUR 225 million allocated for 2023-2027 projects. Evidence: "Fortum has decided to invest approximately EUR 225 million during 2023-2027 in projects within the Espoo Clean Heat programme. These will drive decarbonisation and build sustainable waste heat solutions in the Helsinki metropolitan area." — https://www.fortum.com/en/media/2023/06/fortum-invest-approximately-eur-225-million-waste-heat-projects-espoo-and-kirkkonummi-finland
