The SC-HOOP project develops a demo plant at Mantua, Italy, using Versalis' proprietary HOOP® pyrolysis technology to chemically recycle 6,000 tonnes/year of mixed plastic waste into nearly 5,000 tonnes/year of recycled naphtha for new polymer production. This complements mechanical recycling, enhances plastic circularity, and avoids approximately 140,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions over the first ten years compared to virgin naphtha production. The plant was inaugurated in June 2025 and supports EU recycling targets as the only Italian large-scale project funded by the 2023 EU Innovation Fund.
