About this project

The description is as the source gives it.

The Varennes Carbon Recycling project employs Enerkem's gasification and catalysis technology to transform non-recyclable municipal solid waste and forestry residues into advanced biofuels, including cellulosic ethanol and low-carbon methanol. Originally developed by Enerkem in partnership with others, the project was acquired by StormFisher Hydrogen in October 2025 following financial challenges. It aims to process over 200,000 tonnes of waste annually, producing renewable fuels and contributing to significant greenhouse gas reductions.

Statuses, countries and reductions are as the public source states them, and may be out of date.
