About this project
The description is as the source gives it.
UPM Communication Papers is installing a heat pump at its Augsburg mill in Germany to convert unused excess heat into process steam for paper production. The project reduces fossil CO2 emissions from steam generation and aligns with UPM's climate targets. Construction begins June 2026 with operation targeted for first half of 2027. Evidence: "Steam production is one of the most energy-intensive steps in papermaking. With its new heat pump, UPM Augsburg can now generate process steam far more efficiently by using existing heat resources, saving approximately 6,000 tons of fossil CO₂ emissions annually." — https://www.upmpaper.com/knowledge-inspiration/blog-stories/articles/2026/upm-communication-papers-launches-flagship-heat-pump-project-that-turns-excess-heat-into-climate-benefit/
