About this project
The description is as the source gives it.
The Alcoa Mechanical Vapour Recompression (MVR) project aimed to install a 4 MW MVR module at the Wagerup alumina refinery in Western Australia to demonstrate low-carbon evaporation in the Bayer process using renewable energy. Following a USD 8.8 million feasibility study funded by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), the project was intended to reduce GHG emissions by displacing fossil fuel-derived steam. However, it was discontinued in November 2023 due to financial unviability stemming from unforeseen issues with existing equipment.
Statuses, countries and reductions are as the public source states them, and may be out of date.
