Alcoa is piloting the electrification of the calcination process in alumina refining at the Pinjarra Alumina Refinery in Western Australia to reduce carbon emissions. The project is supported by USD 5.9 million from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency, announced in 2022. Pilot testing targets completion by mid-2026.
