About this project
The description is as the source gives it.
ArcelorMittal signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Spanish Government in 2021, securing support for a €1 billion investment in decarbonization technologies, including direct reduced iron and electric arc furnace (DRI-EAF). Construction of an electric arc furnace for long products at the Gijón plant commenced in 2024. The EAF is slated to produce its first heat in Q1 2026, resulting in over 35% reduction in CO2 emissions, potentially up to 1 million metric tons annually.
Statuses, countries and reductions are as the public source states them, and may be out of date.
