CLEANKER is a Horizon 2020 project that demonstrates the integrated Calcium Looping (CaL) process for CO2 capture in cement production at TRL7. The project constructed and operated a demonstration plant at the Buzzi Unicem cement facility in Vernasca, Italy, capturing CO2 from a portion of the flue gas using the plant's raw meal as the sorbent, targeting over 90% capture efficiency. Following inauguration in October 2020 and testing campaigns, the project achieved its objectives and concluded in 2023.
