About this project
The description is as the source gives it.
The FUTURE project aims to build and operate a pilot installation in the Port of Antwerp, Belgium, converting food waste into high-purity lactic acid (LA) used to produce polylactic acid (PLA), a biodegradable bioplastic. The innovative bioconversion, fermentation, and purification processes eliminate the need for sugar-rich crops and slaked lime, avoiding gypsum by-products and reducing GHG emissions by 95% compared to reference scenarios. It will produce 4,103 tonnes of polymer-grade LA annually, avoiding 82,438 tonnes of CO2 emissions over its first ten years of operation.
Statuses, countries and reductions are as the public source states them, and may be out of date.
