The GoBiGas Phase 1 project was a demonstration initiative by Göteborg Energi to produce biomethane from biomass through gasification and catalytic methanation. Located in Gothenburg, Sweden, the plant had a capacity of 11 kt/y biomethane, which was fed into the national gas grid, aiming to substitute fossil natural gas and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Operational from 2014 to 2018, it was shut down due to financial losses and market changes, though it successfully demonstrated the technology.
