About this project

The description is as the source gives it.

The Hisarna process, developed by Tata Steel in IJmuiden, Netherlands, under the ULCOS programme, utilizes innovative smelting reduction technology tested successfully in a pilot plant from 2018-2019, producing 2 kt of pig iron without carbon capture. Although Tata Steel shifted focus to hydrogen-based direct reduced iron for its European operations in 2021, the company is advancing plans for a 0.5 Mt-scale pilot plant in India, expected between 2025-2030, with recent 2026 investments of Rs 11,000 crore to deploy Hisarna and other green technologies at Jamshedpur to reduce emissions. This technology aims for at least 20% lower CO2 emissions compared to traditional blast furnace methods.

Statuses, countries and reductions are as the public source states them, and may be out of date.
