About this project

The description is as the source gives it.

Union Pacific is developing and testing six hybrid battery-electric switch locomotives in partnership with ZTR. The prototypes combine diesel and battery power for improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions in yard operations. Testing began in 2024 at North Little Rock, Arkansas facility with yard testing and pilot completion planned for 2026. Evidence: "The first of six cutting-edge hybrid battery-electric locomotives designed and built by Union Pacific Railroad and its partner ZTR, a leading rail technology company, will undergo extensive testing next month in a Union Pacific facility and rail yard." — https://www.up.com/news/service/ztr-hybrid-locomotives-it-240429
