About this project
The description is as the source gives it.
The Lebec Net-Zero Project aims to produce carbon-neutral cement at the National Cement plant in Lebec, California, by replacing fossil fuels with locally sourced biomass from agricultural byproducts such as pistachio shells, substituting clinker with calcined clay to manufacture limestone calcined clay cement (LC3), and capturing and sequestering approximately 950,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions annually. This initiative demonstrates a combination of decarbonization strategies to achieve net-zero emissions for an existing U.S. cement production facility. Originally awarded up to $500 million from the U.S. Department of Energy's Industrial Demonstrations Program, the project faced funding cancellation in 2025 but is currently in discussions for restoration.
Statuses, countries and reductions are as the public source states them, and may be out of date.
