About this project
The description is as the source gives it.
Thyssenkrupp Steel initiated testing of hydrogen injection in a blast furnace in Duisburg, Germany, starting in 2019 to partially replace coal, with the first phase successfully concluding in 2021 and a second phase planned for 2022. The associated HydrOxy Hub Walsum project, announced in 2021, involves constructing a 150 MW PEM electrolyzer at the STEAG site in Duisburg-Walsum to produce green hydrogen for thyssenkrupp's steel production, targeting operations by 2027. This joint initiative with STEAG aims to support decarbonization of the steel industry and has secured EU Innovation Fund support.
