About this project
The description is as the source gives it.
WM is investing $1.6 billion from 2022-2027 to develop 20 new WM-owned renewable natural gas (RNG) facilities at its landfills, converting captured landfill gas into pipeline-quality RNG. This supports methane abatement at WM's own landfills (Scope 1) and allocation of RNG to fuel WM's alternative-fuel collection fleet (fuel switching and insetting in value chain). As of late 2025, 14 facilities were operational with six more planned for 2026-2027, adding 25 million MMBtu annual capacity. Evidence: "WM is on track to complete six more RNG projects in 2026 and 2027, for a total of 20 projects, anticipated to add 25 million MMBtu of annual capacity." — https://sustainability.wm.com/energy-is-renewable/
