About this project
The description is as the source gives it.
In 2024, Rio Tinto started the construction of the Yarwun Hydrogen Calcination Pilot, which includes an electrolyser to produce hydrogen and use it to partially decarbonise alumina refining (calcination) at its Yarwun alumina refinery in Gladstone, Queensland. Operations are expected to start in 2025. Previously, in 2022, Rio Tinto had completed a feasibility study to assess use of hydrogen for alumina refining, supported by the Australian Government.
Statuses, countries and reductions are as the public source states them, and may be out of date.
